English: Afterword written by John Yu Shuinling for the Chinese translation of Imperial Incense, a book authored by his sister Lizzie Yu Der Ling.
中文（繁體）：「宮廷生活之囘憶：《御香縹緲錄》代跋——勛齡先生」：晚近從事譯述者多矣：或由中國文譯爲西文，或由西文譯爲中國文；然一考其實，非過於冗長，卽失於隔閡。年來讀秦瘦鷗先生所譯《御香縹緲錄》，則委曲活潑，結構緊嚴，眞如初寫黃庭恰到好處。蓋斯集原係三舍妹德齡所撰，無可驚人，今經瘦鷗先生掾筆譯之，從此價增十倍矣！至其中情節虛實，曾經五舍妹容齡論之於先，無煩贅敍。迴憶遜淸光緖年間，勛齡及兩妹追隨先母，同侍宮闈；凡慈禧太后之御照，莫不由僕一人所攝。僕自幼目力短視，不鏡如瞽；一日洗版甫畢，捧升丹墀，徐行幾蹶。太后見狀大笑。當時隨侍之宮眷等，因欲博太后歡欣更羣起而附和之；僕遂於矜持慚恧交倂之餘，竟至寸步難移。太后更笑不可仰，乃命兩小內監扶掖，（攙扶非官至頭二品之老臣決不能邀此曠典）並賞戴鏡出入，無庸摘卸，洵殊旨也。僕彼時正値三十初度，竟頒賞賜壽，壽物如無量壽佛等，共九品。淸制，非官至實任二品，向不賜壽。並常賜在宮內隨行伙食挑一份。（水壺，糖點，奶茶等件，閹豎挑之隨行。王公大臣亦不易得此殊典也。）克食則三五日必一賜。（卽膳罷御命某品某品賞賜某人，每賜四簋或二簋不等。）光緖帝曾賜摺箑，一面花卉，一面唐詩，均出御製；可異者唐詩係用硃筆，爲向來所不經見之事。深愧當時之如天寵眷，獨加於庸闇小臣也。已往虛榮，固不願形諸楮墨，因瘦鷗先生殷殷垂問，有不得不略陳梗槪者，爰書之權充本書補白。　　　　　　中華民國二十四年十二月除夕
