Description
Svenska: Sigismund. Öfver 60 stycken olika kopparstick af Sigismund äro kända, men de kunna efter de olika typerna ordnas i 4 à 5 grupper, hvilka sinsemellan hafva en viss öfverensstämmelse i anletsdragen eller klädedrägten, men variera med afseende på format, bildens vändning åt höger eller venster, inramningar, inskriptioner m. m. Detta kopparstyck hör synbarligen till den äldsta gruppen, hvilket framgår icke minst af drägten, som stammar från 1500-talet. Man skulle, att döma af inskriptionen, der hvarje antydning om Sigismunds egenskap af att äfven vara konung i Sverige saknas, kunna antaga att bilden tillkommit före 1592; likväl må anmärkas, att t. ex. på den ofvan omtalade bilden i Florens har titeln utvald konung ("electus rex") i Sverige utsatts. Att bilden verkligen framställer Sigismund III och ej morbrodern, Sigismund II August, synes bäst af underskriften, som ytterligare bestyrkes af flere senare reproduktioner af samma typ. Gravörens signatur är något otydlig, men synes vara: G. Haijer, Wratislaviæ. Ett mindre och finare utfördt stick af 1598, närmar sig mycket denna bild; den är signerad C. P. och härrör från en bekant kopparstickare, Crispin van den Passe. Å detsamma är titeln “rex Sueciæ“ utsatt.
