Description
English: Sign for the Neidpath Inn Named after Neidpath Castle which is nearby. The castle, built in the 15th century on a hill overlooking the Tweed, was held by the Earl of Tweeddale for Charles I in the Civil War until Cromwell's artillery battered its 11ft thick walls and forced its defenders into submission. It was later restored and sold to the Queensberry family. The spendthrift 4th Duke, William Douglas Queensberry, known as 'Old Q', felled all the trees on the estate in the 18th century to raise money.
