Summary

Description Informative panels inside the Newman Wine Vaults in St. John's give out fascinating information about port wine and its history. Here is one of them. Though self explanatory if viewed in full screen mode, just in case you can't be bothered, let me briefly state that this sign talks about oak barrels called 'pipes' which have been traditionally used to age port. The ageing itself takes about 40 years by which time the wine takes on a slightly oak flavour. At the top right is also a picture of a bottle of Newman Port, from the early days.
