Summary

edit
Description Signage for the turntable just before the roundhouse in the grounds of the Toronto Railway Museum. Briefly, as most steam locomotives are built to be driven only one way (they can run in reverse but driver lookout etc. are on one side only), they had to be tunrned round on a turntable like this one to face the direction they will travel in. So once the engine come in, it had to be turned round for the return journey. The same also holds true for most Canadian and American diesels which have a driver's cab on one end only and so have to be turned round for the return journey. The sign is self explanatory if viewed in full screen mode. More notes appear in the next caption. (Toronto, Canada, Nov.2015)
