English: Single track at Dovey Junction Plans have recently been announced to spend £13m upgrading the Cambrian route from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth, with the intention of improving punctuality and moving towards an hourly service (currently 2 hourly). Included in the scheme is the construction of a passing loop on the single line at Dovey Junction which is essential to allow an hourly service.
The area to the right of the current line once contained a passing loop but without a platform. I remember in the 1970's, the very complex shunting operations required to pass trains and also to allow passengers access to the platforms! The current service pattern would require that a platform be built for the passing loop. Work is planned to start towards the end of 2007. |
