DescriptionSite of the old Sea Water Baths - geograph.org.uk - 1710420.jpg |
English: Site of the old Sea Water Baths. Sea Water Bathing ..... initially in the seclusion of a baths was very popular for the wealthy Victorians. Many seaside resorts had such baths and this plaque records the site of Tenby's baths overlooking the sea. The quote written on this plaque by Euripides "The sea washes away all the ills of men" summarises the whole philosophy behind the Victorian concept of bathing in sea water.
There is a plaque on the wall recording the former use made of this site and above the door the words of Euripides can be seen written in Greek. 1710401 A close inspection of the plaque reveals a hint of one of the activities which took place here in former times as the building on this site was also the Assembly Rooms. Dancing would most certainly be one of the activities that the locals and visitors might find a delightful pastime to take place in the Assembly Rooms. |
