Streets carpeted with hundreds of thousands of flowers, are mostly made by dedicated volunteers in many countries, like Italy, India, Spain, Portugal, and Guatemala. Whole families and local groups participate in making flower carpets in imaginative designs. Mostly the carpets are created for religious reasons.

My pictures show the Corpus Christi carpets being made in Sitges, Spain. Corpus Christi is a moveable feast, celebrated one week after Trinity Sunday. I went early in the day to watch them being made. Boxes and boxes containing tens of thousands of flowers (mainly Carnations) are bought and carefully laid out in each display in intricate patterns. It's nice to see whole families engrossed in the work.

This picture, of one of the largest displays nearing completion, was taken outside the local Ajuntament (Council) offices, with the old seaside church in the background. On the right side we see finishing touches being applied by a family.
