editDescriptionSivas Cifte Minaret Medrese 025.jpg |
English: Scanned slide from 1997. The Çifte Minare Medrese (double minaret Koran school) has been built in 1271. In its back a recent restoration shows the original ground plan, but it still is mainly important for its wonderful Seljuk façade. The restoration seemed to be almost finished in June 2011, when I visited the town again. I was told at another spot that a laser is used nowadays to evaporate the eroded parts. The result is astounding, the stone is much more white than I ever thought. I hope authorities will not allow traffic, let alone parking, in its front, as used to be the case (on Google Streetview one can see this turned out different: a large truck blocks the view on much of the front, other cars are parked nearby). Though I admit that my old slides, taken before restoration, due to the effects of erosion have more contrast and as such are more to my liking. Note that a same-named medrese in Erzurum is more famous, and might be mistaken for this one. |
