English: Ski touring Hope Edge. When the snow is good, the top carpark on the Stang is out of reach and you must ski up the verge to reach Hope Edge. November 1993 was early in what proved to be a good snow year for Dales tourers - this snow lay for several days, and gave us one of our best powder days skiing in England on the day this photo was taken. From the road at the top of the forest, a path leads SE to reach the main bridleway, seen here just starting a slight descent to the ENE as part of the Black Gate loop.
The tour is perhaps less interesting now, since a lot of the trees on this top section of the forest have been felled over winter 2008/9 - see 1197951 but tracks elsewhere in the forest are still good (when it snows enough). |
