English: Sluice gates at the Mill Dam, Beaulieu, New Forest. A plaque on the bridge over the mill dam reads: "BEAULIEU RIVER MILL DAM SLUICE GATES REBUILT IN 2001 BY THE BEAULIEU ESTATE WITH ASSISTANCE FROM THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY AND ENGLISH NATURE RE-OPENED BY HON. ELIZABETH VARLEY 29TH JUNE 2001". Elizabeth Varley was the half-sister of the present Lord Montagu (owner of the Beaulieu Estate) and died in 2002 after a very eventful life. |
