English: Small lochan, Ferry point There are two or three of these, which appear ephemeral. Perhaps they dry out in the searing heat of our arid Orkney summers. They are marked on the 1:25,000 map, however, and may well be permanent features. I once asked an Orcadian how they knew when it was summer. The laconic reply was, "The rain gets warmer". |
