The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) captured this true-color image of smoke from western Canada wildfires crossing over Maryland and Delaware, then across the Atlantic Ocean on May 8, 2016.

Description
English: The fires that devastated Fort McMurray in the Canadian province of Alberta generated pyrocumulus clouds that lofted smoke high into the atmosphere. Winds then transported plumes of this smoke long distances from the source, reaching the east coast of the United States. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) captured this true-color image of smoke from western Canada wildfires crossing over Maryland and Delaware, then across the Atlantic Ocean on May 8, 2016. Despite the smoke seen in this image, the National Weather Service noted the air quality in Delaware, Maryland and much of northern Virginia as "good" on that day, indicating the smoke remained high in the atmosphere as it passed over the region.
