Summary edit
DescriptionSmokescreen Project - Exploring Indoor Air Pollution Through Art in Nepal.jpg |
English: Household air pollution is a major cause of ill-health worldwide. It is mostly due to the burning of biomass fuels like wood, dung and straw in indoor fires for cooking and heating. The smoke from these fires can lead to many health problems, particularly lung infections and illnesses whose effects are mostly borne by women and young children.
The Smokescreen explores the issues around air pollution with women in the south of Nepal. Local women, researchers and a well-known group of neighbouring artists from the Janakpur Women's Development Centre looked at problems and potential solutions in a creative environment. |
