Description
English: Straddling the border between Tennessee and North Carolina, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in America. The ridges, rivers, and valleys of the park cover more than 800 square miles of diverse plant and animal life, through mountains older than the Rockies, dating back almost 1.2-billion years. The highest peak in the Smokies is the summit of Clingmans Dome at 6,643 feet. The park boast at least 200 species of birds, 50 species of fish, more than 80 species of reptiles, and amphibians, and about 1,500 black bears. Elk were introduced into the park 2001.
