Description
Deutsch: "Sophie Caroline Marie von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel als Witwe, um 1780"
English: So-called Portrait of Sophie Caroline Marie of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1737-1817), widow of Friedrich III, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth (1711-1763), but it’s probably a depiction of her grandmother Princess Antoinette of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1696-1762), widow of Ferdinand Albert II, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1680-1735)
  • Identification proposed by user Ecummenic (talk) based on the similitude with some portraits of Antoinette of Brunswick (see images below) and the correspondence between the age of the sitter and the clothes she wears (second quarter of the 18th century), which rules out Margravine Sophie Caroline because she was widowed later, in 1763, being very young.
