English: Soldiers Rooms, Cape Breton
Soldiers had leather shoes but they were very expensive so they wear wooden shoes when they weren't on duty. They had a hard life, were given a thick bread and had to cook their food over the fireplace. They had dried vegetables, salted pork and dried cod fish but could also hunt for other meat. They made little money as a soldier but could make extra money building houses and other things in the town. Français : Chambre de soldats à l'Île Royale Les soldats avaient des chaussures en cuir mais, comme elles étaient chères, ils portaient des chaussures en bois lorsqu'ils n'étaient pas en service. Ils avaient une vie dure. Il leur étant donné un pain épais et avient à faire cuire leur nourriture dans le foyer. Ils avaient des légumes séchés, du porc salé et de la morue séchée. Ils pouvaient aussi chasser pour d'autres viandes. Ils faisaient peu d'argent comme soldat mais pouvaient faire de l'argent supplémentaire en construisant des maisons et autres choses dans la ville. |
