DescriptionSoon-to-be Oxbow lake in the Fee Burn - geograph.org.uk - 1558794.jpg |
English: Soon-to-be Oxbow lake in the Fee Burn The Fee Burn cascades noisily down from the high Mounth plateau into the corrie where it is soon meandering among the drumlins. This particular meander is only prevented from becoming an oxbow lake by the few rocks sitting in the bank by the little cascade on the left of the photo. It is apparent that in high floods the burn already cuts the corner and a new channel is forming. It is only a matter of time before the channel enlarges and no flow follows the loop around, which will leave an oxbow. The normal processes of rocks moving down the bed will soon leave it isolated as an oxbow lake and eventually as no more than a boggier depression in the corrie floor. |
