Summary edit

Description
English: South Indian bronze at the V&A The V&A is notable for its range of exhibits within a relatively small compass. As well as European art and sculpture, the V&A houses examples of more popular crafts such as photography, jewellery, clothes design and work, too, from other continents, especially Asian - as here. This fine bronze made by the "lost wax" method originates from Tamil Nadu in India and dates back to the period of the Chola empire Chola_empire , which was particularly known for this art http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/chola/ . This example portrays Nataraja, a form of Shiva, as Lord of the Cosmic Dance, treading down the demon of ignorance and preparing the universe for a new creation.
