Description
English: South Sands The name of the field according to the 1838 tithe map and indicative of the type of soil known as greensand that is found between the chalk of the South Downs and the clays of the Weald. The most productive of the three soils it was often the first area to be cleared for arable production. Ockenden Shaw is the wood in the distance.
