editDescriptionSouthwest United States and Mexico (MODIS 2018-06-11).jpg |
English: On June 2, 2018, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of the southwestern United States.
Most of this region has been bone-dry, with high temperatures and low humidity – a perfect combination for a high risk of wildfires. Several plumes of smoke can be seen rising from actively burning fires in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, western Texas, and Mexico. As of June 10, Inciweb reports 19 large and active fires burning in these states and far southern California. The number of fires in Mexico is unreported. |
