English: Early snow covered the high elevations across the Southwestern United States by late November 2019. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the snow-topped southwest on November 23. The scene stretches from California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains (lower left) to Utah’s Great Salt Lake and Bonneville Flats, (upper left). Nevada lies between California and Utah. Tans and brown mark unvegetated areas which see little annual precipitation. Most of Nevada, the western half of Utah, and parts of other nearby states sit within the Great Basin Desert.
