Description
English: Albrecht Dürer (1471 Nuremberg-1528 ibid.). The wire drawing mill, 1489 or 1494. Watercolor and opaque colors on paper. The discovery of the landscape is an important contribution of German art to the renaissance in the north. The wire drawing mill is an early example of this development. Albrecht Dürer is studying a striking ensemble on the Pegnitz at the gates of Nuremberg using watercolors and opaque paints and depicts the landscape behind it topographically as far as the horizon. He braces the shimmering blue mountain ranges in the distance as if by accident with a sky-blue water reflection in the foreground.
