English: In a sphere eversion, certain topological events occur. These topological events describe changes in the topology of the self-intersection curves of the sphere during the eversion. The topological event Q describes the appearance and disappearance of a quadruple point between four different parts of the deformed sphere. The four different parts of the deformed sphere intersect transversally as a whole. If the four parts of the sphere intersect each other in pairs, there are six self-intersection curves that intersect in four triple points. The four sphere parts, six self-intersection curves, and four triple points form a tetrahedron. Moving the sphere parts towards each other moves the four triple points towards each other until they meet in a single quadruple point. At the same time, the tetrahedron becomes progressively smaller until it collapses into the quadruple point. By continuing the motion in the original directions, the quadruple point splits into four triple points again. The tetrahedron also reappears, but its former inside is now on the outside and vice versa.
In the video, the four different parts of the deformed sphere are visualized by topological disks that have the shape of a plane. The video shows the planes moving past each other. In the first part of the video, the green plane moves upward, the orange plane backward, and the magenta and cyan planes sideways. The tetrahedron that is visible in the middle of the figure shrinks until four triple points at the corners of the tetrahedron collapse into the quadruple point. After that, an inverted tetrahedron reappears. The direction of movement of the planes reverses in the second part of the video, which reverses the topological change. The entire sequence is repeated a second time in the video. The four different parts of the sphere are displayed as transparent surfaces in magenta, cyan, orange, and green. To emphasize the self-intersection curves, they are displayed as a white tubes. To emphasize the triple points and the quadruple point, they are displayed as a white tubes. The terminology Q for this topological event is described in the following articles:
