Das Wasserkraftwerk Spichra. "Das Wasserkraftwerk Spichra wurde 1924 von der Werrakraftwerke Aktiengesellschaft gebaut und 1925 feierlich in Betrieb genommen. In einem Gebäude (seine Architektur zeigt deutliche Merkmale einer beginnenden modernen Industrieentwicklung) lief über Jahrzehnte (auch in schwierigsten Zeiten) eine einzige Erzeugeranlage fast ununterbrochen. Heute verfügt die TEAG Thüringer Energie AG seit der Reaktivierung im Dezember 1997 mit diesem Wasserkraftwerk über das größte und modernste Laufwasserkraftwerk an der thüringischen Werra, das gleichzeitig auch ein technisches Denkmal ist und besichtigt werden kann. Die wichtigsten Bauteile der historisch wertvollen Maschinen und Schalteinrichtungen sind noch heute in der Werkhalle vorhanden. Das Kraftwerk hat eine maximale Leistung von 1300 kW. Es liefert eine geplante elektrische Arbeit von 5,5 Millionen kWh im Jahr. Die Anlage läuft vollautomatisch und wird aus Bad Salzungen mit Hilfe moderner Kommunikationstechnik fernüberwacht. Die Bootsanlegestelle befindet sich unterhalb des Kraftwerkes, unmittelbar gegenüber dem Vereinsheim. Für die Wasserwanderer befinden sich vor und hinter dem Kraftwerk linksseitig der Werra Bootsumtragestellen. Den Fischen wird mit einer Fischtreppe über das Wehr geholfen."
