| Description |
English: Spring Street, Ripponden, Soyland. This is part of Ripponden Old Lane, the ancient packhorse route to Rochdale. The owner of the house with the broad arch has informed me that it was an inn built in 1829 for the travellers making their way to Rochdale. The archway in the first house led to stables, and the passage slopes upwards so as to drain to the front. The taking-in door would be for the hay store. In the cellar the old meat stores have been uncovered. The living area was in the cellar and the first-floor bedroom. Everyone who comes here say that it feels warm and inviting; The owner assumes that there has been a lot of good times had by all whilst staying here. |
