DescriptionSproatley - geograph.org.uk - 600270.jpg |
English: Sproatley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The B 1238 near the northern end of Sproatley village, looking east-northeast with Tradesman's Row on the left and the Blue Bell pub on the right. The number of pubs in Sproatley declined from five in 1754 to two in the 1780s, when one of them was named as the Blue Bell. In 1835 the pub belonged to the Revd. Thomas Galland, a Wesleyan Methodist minister from West Yorkshire who owned some adjacent land, and after 1847 to Sir Thomas Constable and his successors [information on the Blue Bell from British History Online]. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=16131&strquery=sproatley |
