Description
English: This picture describes the phenomenon of squat of a ship. It appears when a ship is moving with in a low depth of water under the skittle.
1: Deep water case. The ship floats by buoyancy.
2: Shallow water case. Water is compressed between the sea bed and the ship's body, and runs out faster. According to the Bernoulli's principle, the pressure decreases when the speed increases. A low ebb is formed, attracting the ship downwards. Before and after this hollow, the waves are also higher.
Français : Image décrivant le phénomène de surenfoncement d'un navire. Il se manifeste lorsqu'un navire est en mouvement avec une profondeur d'eau faible sous la quille.
1 : Situation en eau profonde. Le navire flotte selon le principe de la poussée d'Archimède.
2 : Situation en eau peu profonde. L'eau se trouve comprimée entre le fond et la coque, et s'écoule plus rapidement. Selon le principe de Bernoulli, la pression diminue quand la vitesse augmente. Un creux de vague se forme, attirant le navire vers le bas. Avant et après ce creux, les vagues sont également plus hautes.
