English: Grave marker of Capt. John Thierkauff (1836-1880) and wife Kath. Thierkauff (1846-1919), St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Chicago. Thierkauff was the captain of the David A. Wells, a 2-mast schooner lost as sea on October 16, 1880. The ship was lost seven miles northeast of Chicago harbor in the "the Alpena Storm". The ship was "so deeply loaded with iron-ore as to use her buoyancy". The entire crew of eight died in the accident.
