Description
Dansk: Den genopførte kirke St. Mary’s Mission i Bitterroot Valley nær Victor og Stevensville, Montana. Oprindelig påbegyndt i 1841 af jesuit missionærerne (black robes) Pierre-Jean De Smet, Gregory Mengarini, Nicholas Point, Joseph Specht, William Claessens og Charles Huett efter gentagne ønsker fra de lokale flathead (salish) indianere. Forladt i 1851 og ifølge skik brændt, da kirken havde stået ubrugt i to år. Genført i 1866 under bl.a. jesuit missionærerne Anthony Ravalli og Claessens. Restaureret i 1970erne og 1980erne. Visitor center og museum åbnet ved siden af i 1996.
English: The rebuilt church, St. Mary’s Mission, in Bitterroot Valley near Victor and Stevensville, Montana. Started in 1841 by jesuit missionairies (black robes) Pierre-Jean De Smet, Gregory Mengarini, Nicholas Point, Joseph Specht, William Claessens og Charles Huett after repeated requests by the local Salish people (Flatheads). Left in 1851. According to custom burned when it had been empty for two years. Rebuilt in 1866 by (among others) black robes Anthony Ravalli og Claessens. Restored during the 1970s and 1980s.
