DescriptionSt. Narcissus and the Flies.jpg |
English: The painting "St. Narcissus and the Flies" from the Church of St. Felix in Girona (Catalonia, Spain). According to an old legend, during the siege of Girona in 1285 by the French troops, thousands of huge poisonous flies flew out of the defiled tomb of Saint Narcís. They attacked the enemy army, stinging everyone in a row - horses, soldiers and nobles, inflicting crushing damage on the enemy. Half of the troops and even the French king Philip III, who led them, died, and the army was forced to retreat from Girona.
