| Description |
English: St Austin's RC Church, No8, Wentworth Terrace St Austin's Roman Catholic Church and attached Parish Room are grade II listed buildings in this conservation area. Built in 1827-8, and altered in 1856, further alterations and additions were made in 1878-80, to the designs of Joseph Hansom, ( who designed the Hansom cab).
From the left, the Parish room, added in 1930, now the theatre. The Baptistry is to the right of the theatre, followed by the Lady Chapel, (the semi octagonal projection), which is topped by a leaded octagonal dome and cross finial. The nave is to the right, with projecting porch, which serves as the entrance to the church. |
