English: Church of St Margaret of Antioch, Felbrigg, Norfolk, mural monument to Joan Windham (1651/2-1669), second daughter of Thomas Windham (1571-1653) of Felbrigg Hall (see his monument in same church), by his second wife Elizabeth Mede/Meade, a daughter of Sir John Mede, Knight Bachelor, of Lofts Hall in the parish of Wenden Lofts, Essex. She died of smallpox, in Norwich, unmarried. Monument erected by her eldest brother. Arms of Windham above (Azure, a chevron between three lion's heads erased or), in a lozenge-shaped escutcheon suitable for a female armiger. See similar monument in same church to her youngest brother John Windham (1653-1676), who also died of smallpox, aged 23, whilst studying for the legal profession at Lincoln's Inn in London. |
