Summary edit

Description
English: St Mary's church - baptismal font According to the Domesday Book there was a church in Watton before 1086. Originally dedicated to St Giles, the church was rededicated to St Mary in the early 15th century. Because of additions during the 19th century, St Mary's presently is the only Norfolk church that is wider than it is long. The first stage of the round tower is the original Saxon/Norman tower; the octagonal top with four windows was added during the 13th or 14th century. The baptismal font is made from Caen stone and has a cover made of oak. The poor box mounted on the wall is unique: according to tradition it depicts William Forster, a former vicar (from 1632-1660). The church is open on three mornings during the week; a key is readily available when locked.
