Description
English: St Michael, Aveley - wall monument to Dacre Barrett Lennard (1650-1724) of Belhouse/Belhus, Aveley, showing his quartered arms impaling the arms of Luckyn, for his third and last wife Sarah Luckyn, daughter of Sir Capell Luckyn, 2nd Baronet, of Messing, Essex, and widow of Philip Saltonstall of Groves, South Ockendon. Dacre Barrett Lennard was the son of Richard Barrett and Anne Loftus. Dacre Barrett Lennard became alienated from his father Richard Barrett through the machinations of a retainer called Seacombe and his accomplice called Owen, who were 'managing' the old man to their own advantage. In April/May 1691 Dacre obtained a commission of lunacy in order to rescue his father, and his father's estates, out of the hands and management of these shady characters. This commission was quashed, largely following the intervention of Richard's daughter Anne. Dacre Barrett Lennard and his family, having been turned out of Belhus, had no alternative but to go to Clones family estates Ireland. Dacre Barrett died in 1725, having been predeceased by his son Richard. The property was inherited by his grandson Thomas Barrett-Lennard, 17th Baron Dacre (1717–1786), the son of Anne Lennard, suo jure 16th Baroness Dacre, by her first husband Richard Barrett, son of Dacre Barrett (son of Richard Barrett and Anne Loftus) by his first wife Lady Jane Chichester, a daughter of Arthur Chichester, 2nd Earl of Donegall. Dacre Lennard Barrett died 1 Jan 1724/25 (finding of the Master in Chancery), was buried 13 Jan 1724/25 (Aveley burial register) died 24 Jan 1724, 74 yrs (on the coffin plate).
