Description
English: St Murdoch's Chapel This was until 1611 the parish kirk of the former parish of Ethie. Only the east gable wall remains of the chapel, which was dedicated to St Murdoch; it was granted to Arbroath Abbey in the reign of William I. The remains of the east gable of the chapel still stand to a height of about 4.0 metres; the wall is 7.2 metres long by 1.0 metre thick. It is of red sandstone ashlar, and is pierced with eight small rectilinear holes. West of this, the foundations of the building can be traced as a bank 1.0 metre high, though no wall is exposed. The area of the chapel is 18.7 metres by 7.2 metres; the relatively modern stone field-dyke is built on the line of the north wall of the chapel. There is no trace left of the burial ground.
