Description
English: St Pancras Old Church This wonderful small church dating back to Norman times, if not earlier, stands in a small garden in Camden. The garden, St Pancras Gardens, more or less triangular in shape, is bounded on one side by a railway line (Eurostar), on a second side by Pancras Road and on the shortest side by the St Pancras Hospital (now a part of University College Hospital). The gardens, restored at the beginning of the 21st century, contain the burial places of many famous people. These include, amongst others, Mary Wollstonecraft early feminist philosopher and mother of Mary Shelley, John Mills one of the survivors of the Black Hole of Calcutta, and not least Johann Christian Bach (the English Bach), son of J S Bach, who died in London on New Year's Day 1782. His exact burial place within the gardens is unknown, but a small plaque lies in the centre of the gardens in commemoration of his life.
