Title
Stables at the new Police Barracks Thebarton c1916
Description

The South Australian Police occupied its new barracks on Port Rd, Thebarton in early 1917, moving from its old location on North Terrace in the city. The choice and occupation of the large site on alienated parklands near the Adelaide Gaol caused controversy in the South Australian Parliament. First buildings included 'administration offices, dormitories, library, billiard room, domestic departments, stables and loose and sick boxes, hay and chaff house, and other necessary structures' (Register, 2 March 1917, pp8, 9) See also https://adelaidepedia.com.au/wiki/Thebarton_Police_(originally_Mounted_Police)_Barracks_Complex
