| Description |
Nederlands: Het definitieve stadsrecht kreeg Rotterdam tegen betaling op 7 juni 1340 van Willem IV, graaf van Holland (1317-1345). Daarmee kregen de 2.000 Rotterdammers die de stad toen telde een aantal privileges. Het stadsrecht omvatte onder meer tolvrijdom en toestemming om twee jaarmarktem te houden. Daartegenover stond dat de bevolking verplicht was een aantal belastingen te betalen en manschappen te leveren ten tijde van oorlog. De graaf behield het opperste gezag. Hij kreeg inkomsten uit verpachtingen van bijvoorbeeld de waag en de windmolens. |
