| Description |
English: Staines Barn. Staines Barn is situated by a sharp bend in Church Road, just east of St Andrew's church > 1329931. A public bridleway - Home Piece Road - links it with The Street in Claxton. The track marks the route of the 1928 extension of a narrow gauge railway which between 1926 and 1936 ran the 1.6 kilometres from Claxton Manor Farm > 1330137 to the south bank of the River Yare > 1552521 - in 1928 it was extended south to Staines Barn, just east of the church. The railway transported sugar beet which were loaded onto wherries and transported to the Cantley sugar factory > 1467475 which is situated several kilometres to the north-east. |
