Stamp of Spain; 1933; commemorative stamp of the series "Famous Personalities "; stamp motive shows a half side portrait with view to right of Manuel Ruiz Zorrilla (1833-1895); Meant is the Spanish politician which was Prime Minister of Spain under King Amadeo (12871, and 1872/73).; Because his participation at the revolt of San Gil on 22th June, 1866.; Therefore he was sentenced to the penlty of death, however suceeded him the flight abroad, but he returned to Spain during the events of the revolution of 1868, which had as result the abdication of Queen Isabella in September 1868 ("La Glorieusa").; To that time, he was one of the leaders of the "Patidido Radical". After the events he was Commandant of the National Guard and later also "Deputato Provincial" for the Province Soria in the Parliament of Spain as candidate of the "Partido Progressista".; In 1870 he was "President de la Cámera" (President of Parliament) and he was one of the autors of the "Proclamatopn of Amadeus Ferdinand Maria of Savoy to the King of Spain" in November 1870. Later he was appointed to the Promotion Minister ("Ministro de Fomento") in the governments of Francisco Serrano Domínguez and Juan Prim.; He get succeedor of Serrano as "President of Government" ("Presidente del Goberno") and experienced in this office the participation of his "Progressistas" as answer of the ideology and policy of a "Práxedes Mateo Sagasta".; One of the results of this policy was the retreat of Serrano Dominguez on 13th June, 1972.; The succedor Manuel Ruiz Zorilla was the last "Presidento del Goberno" for King Amadeus, before the "First Spanish Republic" was proclamed on 13th February, 1873. After he accompagnied the king in his exile to Genua (Italy).; In 1883 was he participated on the fundation of the "Republicain Association" ("Associación Republicana Militar"), but he defeated at a necessary support of this forces in France. During the revolts in Badajoz (1883), Cartagena (1886), and later those of the General Villacampa near Madrid (1886) he supported the rebels against the monarchy in Spain, however he defeated at the support of the rebels by the local population. On 1st February 1891 was he elected from new in the Parliament of Spain in which we set for the constituencies of Barcelona and Madrid, He was one of the founders of the "Union Republicana" in 1893, however came it not more to the foundation of this party because of the death of Manuel Ruiz Zorrilla.; In the town Burgos was later errected a monument to him.; stamp postmarked date QS:P,+1933-04-00T00:00:00Z/7,P580,+1933-04-00T00:00:00Z/10 Stamp size (printed area of a single stamp without signature line): 17.0 x 21.5 mm |
