Description
English: Pedro Américo de Figueiredo e Melo was born on 29 /04 /1843 in the state of Paraíba. Considered one of the main names in Brazilian painting. His best known paintings are "Batalha do Avaí", "Grito do Ipiranga" and "Tiradentes esquartejado". The painting "Grito do Ipiranga", is from 1888 and portrays the cry of Independence given by D. Pedro to the banks of the Ipiranga stream on September 7, 1822. He died in Florence, Italy, on November 7, 1905.
