DescriptionStanmore station - geograph.org.uk - 1506697.jpg |
English: Stanmore station When Stanmore station was opened in 1932 as the terminus of a branch from Wembley Park, it was part of the Metropolitan Railway. This came under London Transport in 1933, and Stanmore remained served by Metropolitan Line (full size) trains until 1939, when new tube tunnels linking the Bakerloo Line at Baker Street with Finchley road were brought into use. From then, Stanmore was served by the tube-sized trains of the Bakerloo line; but in 1979 came another change, with the opening of the Jubilee Line southwards from Baker Street, services to Stanmore were transferred to the Jubilee line, still of course with 'tube sized' stock. The train seen here in 1977 is thus quite abnormal for that period, and is on a special tour using (full size) CO/P stock, shortly before this type of stock was withdrawn from service on all lines. |
