Description
English: Sir Keith McPherson Smith Sir Keith Macpherson Smiith, aviator and engineer, was born in Adelaide in 1890. In 1914, he went to Great Britain trained as a pilot and flying instructor and was accepted into the Royal Flying Corp. He received his commission and served during WW I as an aerial gunnery officer. After the war, he and his brother Ross made a flight from England to Australia in a Vickers Vimy aircraft. He was the navigator and the assistant pilot. For their effort he shared ina prize of £10,000 and he and his brother were knighted. In 1923 he joined the staff of Vickers Ltd. and became their Australian representative.
