Description
English: William Halliwell Demaine (centre) at the Governor General's Conference, 1918 William Halliwell Demaine was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1859. He married Mary Susannah Preston in 1880. He was a newspaper proprietor who became a member of the Legislative Council from 1917 to 1922 and an Australian Labor Party member for Maryborough from 1937 to 1938. He is photographed at the Governor General's Conference in 1918 with Mr Lefroy, the Premier of Western Australia and Mr Lambert, President of the New South Wales Labour Party. (Description supplied with photograph.).
