Description
English: Ellerslie homestead in Townsville, 1913.

Ellerslie House was built by Robert Philp after his marriage in 1878. The homestead was purchased by William John Heatley in the 1930s and renamed Heatley House. Heatley was mayor of Townsville in the 20s and 30s. Today the home is part of the Cathedral School, previously known as St Anne's School.

Sir Robert Philp was a politician and Premier of Queensland from 07 December 1899 until 17 September 1903. He was also a founder of the large North Queensland company of Burns, Philp, based in Townsville. This album was presented to Sir Robert by the People's Progressive League, on his retirement from politics. All photographs in the album were taken by W. G. Laurie and have been surrounded with hand drawn and coloured frames created by Charlotte Cameron.
