English: Station platform tableau, Rosebush This silent group, expecting a train that will never arrive, catches the imagination: the grim-looking woman with the pram but a decidedly unfeminine pose, the shepherd or drover from the hills staring sternly across towards the baby, and the errand boy who has passed time by climbing atop the sign, perhaps waiting with the bicycle to collect a delivery. Are they related? Do they know one another?
The branch line here was opened in 1876 to take out the slates; after quarrying ceased in the early 20thc. attempts were made to develop the village as a resort for day excursions and healthy holidays - the pub now called Y Tafarn Sinc was the Prescelly Hotel - but the station closed in 1949. |
