Description
Deutsch: Marmorstatue des Gottes Apollon, römische Kopie (1. H. 2. Jh. n. Chr.) nach zwei griechischen Vorbildern des mittleren 5. Jh. v. Chr., 1,99 m hoch. – Aus der Sammlung Albani, seit 1733 im Museo Capitolino.
Der Kopf und der Körper gehören nicht zusammen. Der Kopf entspricht dem Typus Tiber-Apoll, der Körper dem Typus Kasseler Apoll. Der Kasseler Apoll wird weithin dem Phidias zugeschrieben; für den Tiber-Apoll wurde eine ebensolche Zuschreibung vorgeschlagen, doch besteht darüber nicht im selben Umfang Einigkeit. Für beide Werke werden Datierungen um 460 oder um 450 v. Chr. diskutiert. –
Die Statue im Konservatorenpalast hat Bedeutung für die Rekonstruktion des hinter dem Kasseler Apoll stehenden Originals, da sie die Stellung der Füße und die Haltung des linken Oberarms (bis zum Ellenbogen antik) überliefert. Doch die Oberfläche der Vorderseite wurde in der Neuzeit überarbeitet, und der Kopf wird als „schlechte Kopie“ angesehen.
