Summary

edit
Description At the entrance/ exit gate to Fort Cornwallis is this large bronze statue of Francis Light. He would probably never imagined that his fort is still standing tall today and is still welcoming visitors. Francis Light and his crew from the British East India Company landed in Penang on 11th August 1786 to 'take possession' of the island from the Sultan of Kedah. The fort was later named after the Governor-General of Bengal, Charles Marquis Cornwallis.(Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia, Nov. 2013)
