Description
English: In Thailand, surprises abound. Every turn of the road, be it highway or village track, has something of beauty to admire. This is the Bodhisattva Guanyin, the Chinese goddess of compassion. Guanyin is often depicted flanked by two children, her acolytes, who came to her when she was meditating at Mount Putuo. The girl is called Long Nü and the boy Sudhana. This magnificent statue is tucked away below a little hill near the Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai. The north of Thailand is home to many people of Chinese origin and they brought their religion with them.
